General Body Cleanse

Happy Friday!

Three and a half weeks until our 5-day cleanse! If you are considering joining, I encourage you to reach out! Post in the Comments section with any questions, or just to say hi!

Now is a good time to consider the decision to cleanse the body. Why would I do such a thing? In the last post I wrote about cleansing as a removal of physical toxins.

People cleanse for many reasons:

  • purify the body or a particular organ/organ system
  • lose weight
  • improve skin
  • reset appetite and digestion
  • balance bacteria or yeast in the body
  • break free of unhealthy patterns
  • encourage or commemorate a transition (this often happens naturally during times of loss)
  • spiritual preparation (similar to Lent or Ramadan)
What sparks your interest about doing a body cleanse? What do you have to clear out? What would you hope to gain?

Please take some time to honestly consider these questions. The motivations and intentions behind our decisions have powerful force! This clearing out period has the potential to be what you make of it.

If you feel comfortable sharing, please share some of your thoughts in the comments below. Dan and I will add ours too!

Next post: the nitty gritty, what a cleanse looks like and how you want to design it for yourself.

Have a great weekend!
Shannon

  1. Dan here. I'm ramping up into the cleanse by slowly eliminating foods that aren't serving me and scaling back others that I love but should moderate. For instance, usually if I can't get a breakfast at home in the morning I will end up getting a donut at the cafe at work. Not this week! Beer, too, is great, but a second one rarely actually tastes as good as the first. Less of that.

Dinner today was good, seared scallops, spinach, corn and beans. Little carbs is a bonus.

  2. Hi everyone! Wanted to add my personal intentions for taking on a body cleanse right now. I've always been fascinated by the body, through dance, massage, nutrition, and somatic psychotherapy. Inspired by my brother and sister, I became a vegan at age 16, turned raw-foodist at age 18 after managing a supplements department at a small health food store. Today I'm neither of those things but I am still committed to conscious relationship with my body, food, and the environment. I'm continually amazed by the intrinsic healing wisdom of the body. Given a healthy and supportive environment, our bodies and minds will move towards greater wellbeing and wholeness.

There are countless cleanses, fasting regimes, diets and weight loss programs. This body cleanse is intended for simultaneous detoxification and re-nourishing. I want to unburden my body of toxins, as I'm unburdening my mind and spirit from toxic thoughts and beliefs. The wedding symbolism of wearing white, writing vows, and having family and nature be our witness, encourages me to enter with a clean body, a clear mind, and an open heart.

And I'd be lying if I didn't also say that I want to lose a few pounds before getting into my form fitting gown!
