Day Three

Welcome to Day Three! Half way!

Today is a day for clarity
For remembering to live
and breathe
Celebrating spaciousness
that comes from emptiness
Room to move
and grow
let go

My day so far: hot water with lemon, living room yoga, pineapple carrot beet ginger juice, work calls. I'm picking up a good friend today. Curious how hosting while juicing will go, but we will figure it out!

Feeling a lot of mental spaciousness this morning. Able to focus and achieve tasks on the to do list, while also just staying present.

I wanted to share some manual cleansing techniques for the body. These techniques and tools help with circulation, eliminating toxins, removing cellulite, and exfoliating the skin.

Gua sha is a massage tool used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It's a scraper, made of bone, stone, or wood. This article explains the technique, it's simple. You can use coconut or olive oil instead of body balm. Gua sha can improve circulation and move lymph in the body. Stroke with good amount of pressure in the direction of your hips or armpits, where the lymph nodes drain. Drink a lot of water afterwards. Repeat daily, unless there is bruising, then give it rest. Gua sha can be used on the stomach in the direction of elimination through the intestines (clockwise). This is helpful especially during a cleanse to aid in removal. It can also be used to break up lymph and fatty tissue, especially in the underarms, butt and thighs!

Sea salt exfoliation. Another way to help with circulation and elimination of toxins is by exfoliating the skin. In the shower, wet yourself with warm water, then turn the water off. Scrub dry sea salt all over, with some good pressure. Use long strokes or circles to soothe muscle and shed dead skin. Spend about 5 minutes scrubbing from head to toe. Rinse. You could also try a sugar scrub, mix sugar with olive or coconut oil, optional essential oils.

Body brushing. Purchase a natural brush from the cosmetics section of a health food store, or online. Body brushing can be done dry or wet. Dry often has more circulation and lymph/fat drainage than wet. Similar to the gua sha strokes, make long strokes towards the heart and digestion centers, towards your core. I use a brush everyday in the shower, with soap, so I can clean and brush at the same time. The skin should get a bit red, showing blood coming to the surface. That means it's working!

Happy scraping, scrubbing, and brushing!
