Ready!?

Greetings!

Ahh, back home in San Diego, reunited with Dan! Feels good to return to the comfort of home after travels. And to prepare for our Summer Solstice Cleanse! 5 days starts tomorrow!

We went grocery shopping: greens for salad, veggies and fruits for juicing, coconut milk, raw almonds for soaking, eggs, lemon and lime for tasty water, beef bones for making broth. Our pantry was already stocked with ground flax seed, psyllium husk, detox tea, Smooth Move tea, vanilla, stevia, and coconut oil.

The cashier at Whole Foods asked what we were up to this Summer, and we said getting married! He told us that he got married after 8 years together, now married for 10 years. He said nothing drastic changed after marriage. We agreed that it's an act of affirmation.

Having salad for dinner tonight. Then I'm headed into 5 days of juicing and Dan is going to supplement with some wholesome vegetarian meals. To recap, from the Meal Plan post, the basic principle is to remove all toxins and focus on high nutrients and cleansing herbs. That means no sugar, alcohol, coffee, grains (including bread!), dairy, processed foods (canned, frozen meals, or preservatives).

During a cleanse, especially when reducing solid foods, it's important to support the body in getting rid of waste. Senna is an herb with a laxative effect. Teas such as Smooth Move and Get Regular have senna in them. Take these only at night, before bed. If you find the tea too strong, try steeping for only 2 minutes instead of 4 or 5. If you find your elimination still slow after a couple days, drink more water and steep the tea a bit longer. There are also herbal laxatives in tablet form, which can be found at health food stores and some pharmacies. I don't recommend using pharmaceutical laxatives.

In the morning we will have warm water with lemon first thing, to boost digestion. Probably going to have a green tea shortly after that, as we are weaning off caffeine. Breakfast tomorrow for me will be the Sunrise juice: carrots, 1 bulb fennel, 1 orange peeled. Dan is going for 2 poached eggs, spinach and salsa. For lunch we will do the Blood Cleanser juice: 3 beets, entire bunch of celery, 1/2 bunch parsley, 1 lemon, optional dash cayenne.

Admittedly Dan and I are both feeling a little anxious about 5 days of cleansing and a juice fast. It's a natural feeling. I'm channeling that energy into the intention of this cleanse, to let go of old stuff, make room for the new, and purify the body.

Here we go!

  1. Part of the exercise here is to not let the things we are giving up dominate our thoughts. I am letting those sorts of thoughts just pass away, rather than focusing or speaking them.
