Starting Point

Monday here we are!

How are you doing on the first day? Sometimes a difficult one as we are so accustomed to our morning coffee, lunch break joints, afternoon snacks... amazing how abundant food is in our society. In the moments that I grumble about being hungry or wanting something snacky, I remember that there are people in the world who don't have access to basic sustenance. How privileged we are! Fasting or eating a restricted diet puts me in a humble place of reverence for the realities of our world and for the amazing healing intelligence of the body.

Ramadan is currently underway as millions of Muslims fast from dawn to sunset for a month. It's a time when the holy texts are believed to have come down to Earth. "The gates of Heaven are open; The gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained up..." I enjoy the symbolism as a time for reflection and commemoration. We can be gifted with greater wisdom and insight through meditative and devotional practice.

What wisdom are you tapping into?

Today I feel overjoyed. Okay, I'm a gushing bride! But also, I had some great conversations when running errands, with people I don't really know! Okay, one of them was a massage therapist because today I signed up for a discounted 90 minute massage! It was divine and I highly recommend getting bodywork done during this week of cleansing!

I worked on a pickling project to make appetizers for the wedding. The mundane task of chopping and preparing became inspired with a feeling of sacredness. Maybe I was just really hungry but it felt like prayer or magic making. The level of care we put into things, into our gifts to the world, enriches our lives.

On a practical level, I had to remind myself to drink enough water! I made the mistake of leaving the house this morning without my water bottle. Tonight we will have juice and perhaps some bone broth.

Here's the start of a contemplative week!
